This masterpiece by Shimizu, who knows Sugi (Japanese cedar) inside and out, is a flexible, ultra-thin, plant-dyed coaster that brings a Japanese atmosphere to your table.
This is a set of 5 pieces of various plant dyes. The types of dyes are akane (madder), kariyasu (a kind of Japanese silver glass), nanten (nandina), ai(indigo), cochineal, logwood (for black), logwood (for purple), rosemary, shiko(lac) and yashabushi (Japanese green alder). You cannot specify the type of dye.
A saucer that matches perfectly with this coaster is available separately as an R&F original product ( here ). By placing this coaster on top, the saucer takes on a different look—like changing its outfit.
Use them casually on their own, or pair them with the saucer for a more refined presentation. Add a little color to your everyday scenery?
Please note:
Please be aware that due to the thickness of approximately 1mm, chips will occur on the surface during production.
Water droplets may cause the coaster to warp, but it will return to its original shape when it dries. Also, it is very soft, so you can easily straighten it by hand.
Depending on the part of the wood and the dyeing compatibility, the dye may bleed during use or come off due to rubbing. Please see the photo for an example of this happening after the owner used the product intensively for about four months.
Each coaster is affixed to a backing sheet with double-sided tape, but the tape is not very strong so as not to damage the surface of the coasters. As a result, the coaster may shift during shipping. We appreciate your understanding.
