These chopsticks are made from reclaimed wood that was once used for tokobashira (the decorative pillar next to a tokonoma alcove) in traditional Japanese houses.
The wood used is hard and heavy ebony. The owner thinks that this weight is just right for chopsticks. The thickness and grip are good, and they don't dig into your fingers like square chopsticks do. They fit perfectly in the hand, and are the owner's family's favorite chopsticks.
As you use the chopsticks, the corners of the carvings and the tips of the chopsticks will turn white. Unlike the flat parts, these corners will soon turn white again even if you care them with oil. Once the corners are rounded off, the chopsticks will fit your hand better. We recommend these chopsticks to those who like this type of aging, as it is evidence of their use. Initially, the old ebony wood (alcove pillars) that I received from an acquaintance was so hard and difficult to work with that I left it alone for a while.
One day, I tried making chopsticks with this and was fascinated by their weight and stability, so I started making them as a standard item.
The tips of the chopsticks are strong and there is no need to worry about them getting worn out, so please use them at the dinner table for a long time to come.
